MainStage — 6-Week Session

MainStage

The MainStage program offers PGT students a comprehensive actor training experience, providing an opportunity to work with a dynamic and nurturing professional staff, in a state of the art facility, among peers who are as committed to a sound creative process as they are to a magnificent finished product.  more info

StudioStage — 3-Week Session

Teen Conservatory

For students ages 14-17, the Teen Conservatory provides a challenging, artistically demanding program within the nurturing, supportive environment that defines every PGT experience. Students in this program work at a sophisticated level of artistry in their study of the craft and as they write and compose an original musical.  more info

YAE — Young Actors’ Ensemble

The Young Actors’ Ensemble is a big step on the PGT actor’s creative journey, as they begin to focus more intensely on the craft. This program, for actors ages 11 to 13, is designed to provide the professional tools and skills every performer needs to continue their artistic development and introduce the hands-on process of creating original performance art.  more info

PGT Kids

Students ages 7 to 10 are ready for a full day, full week theatre program, but still need time outside of class and rehearsal to just be kids — they’re PGT Kids! This program includes the excitement and challenges of being part of "Big Camp," while still allowing time and space for the creative freedom that is so vital for this age group.  more info

Improv Week

Students participating in this one week workshop get a fun-filled and intensive introduction to the wacky world of Improv. Through participation in a variety of classes and rehearsals, students will explore this most spontaneous art of acting in an ensemble environment.  more info

Little Theatre — 3-Week and Flexible Sessions

Little Theatre

Our youngest campers, ages 4-6, enjoy the benefits of being part of the bigger program, while still having their own space and their own program — designed especially for them. Little Theatre joins the rest of the students to start and end each day. In between, they enjoy their own classes in acting, dance and singing. The days in Little Theatre are spent exploring their imaginations, performing for their peers, and using their bodies and voices to give expression to the unique creative spark within each of them.  more info

With the sun blazing down and the annual vacations lazily stretching out over the next two months, it's time to let your kids forget about their homework and bring on the fun factor.

Before they begin to settle down in front of the idiot-box for a re-run of old cartoons, check out some of these great options to keep them up and running, and having a terrific time while doing so.

Alchemy kids

This group has been actively working in the area of personality development and talent promotion through the art of theatre for over five years in the city. They offer various courses throughout the year-both individually and in collaboration with various schools and organisations. "We have full day camps and we aim at the creative and communicative development of children," says Vijay Vishwanathan of Alchemy Kids.

The course includes the folk dance form-Therukoothu from South India and Bhangra from North India. Children can also sign up for theatre classes that include stage play and mime, puppetry and creative visualisation, photo reporting and anchoring events.

All the activities in the camp will be taught in a playful manner to make it interesting for children and is slated to be a whole lot of fun. It will culminate in a grand finale at an auditorium where kids who have learnt particular skills will showcase their talent.

Age group: 4-14 years.

Highlights: The camp exposes children to all different aspects of creativity from dance and theatre to reporting and anchoring.

Raack academy

If your little one loves to groove to all kinds of music and seems passionate about shaking a leg, it's a great idea to send him/her to this place.

Raack academy which started 10 years ago as the dream of S Ramesh has successfully trained over 8000 students and has been part of many television shows. "We have classes in Bollywood and western style of dance," says Nishant, a dance instructor at the institute.

Highlights: The show held at the culmination of the class gives children a great platform to showcase their talent.

Funty

If your children love acting and are passionate about theatre, then funtY, a popular theatre outfit in the city that offers activity and training workshops in theatre and creative writing is the place to go.

Their repertoire of activities include introduction to theatre, acting basics, voice and body modulation exercises, solo and group improvisations, story telling basics, introduction to creative writing, poetry writing, stories and a whole lot more.

Highlights: With training sessions held by theatre veteran Yog Japee, the place offers great exposure for children who are interested in theatre.

Camp Yakaboo

An initiative by the Goethe-Institut and Hippocampus Children's Company, Camp Yakaboo is a library that functions as an open and safe public space for children and teens to learn.

Apart from encouraging reading habits in children, Camp Yakaboo offers a variety of workshops ranging from story telling and travel experience camps for three to fiveyear-olds.

Choose from science, fitness and baking classes for six to eight year olds and public speaking, radio jockeying and photo journalism for kids who are nine years and older.

Age group: 3 - 9 years.
Duration: 2 weeks.
Highlights: The radio jockeying and photo journalism workshops are conducted by professionals from their respective fields and children will be exposed to outdoor activities giving them hands-on experience.
Cost: Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,800 depending on the course.

Expressions Art Studio

Does your child enjoy playing with paper, paint or clay, coming up with creative pieces of art? Then Expressions Art Studio is the place to head to this summer. Here, a team of qualified professional artists teach children fine arts and the Tanjore style of painting.

Workshops on traditional arts like Kalamkari, clay and ceramic pottery, Madhubani, Warli, Patta Chitra are also conducted. Apart from these activities, they hold special classes for those appearing for design related exams.

Kalakar Studio

Kalakar studio is a well laid out art space where children as well as adults can learn new skills and activities like drawing, painting, craft, music, dance, karate, chess, music, yoga, aerobics and musical instruments.

The summer camp for juniors includes physical fitness, art and craft, spoken English, western dance, drawing and colouring. The camp for children above eight years includes, puzzle solving, cookery, public speaking and western dance.

Duration: 2 weeks.
Highlights: Apart from increasing their creativity, the classes conducted in the camp also help in the physical and mental development of the child.

Dakshinchitra

Dakshinachitra is a centre for the living traditions of art, folk performing arts, craft and architecture of India with an emphasis on the traditions of South India. A project of the Madras Craft Foundation (MCF), the centre was opened to the public in December 1996.

A village in itself, Dakshinachitra is a museum of model houses from different parts of South India and a visit here is bound to be a great learning experience for your child.

They offer some interesting classes to keep your little ones occupied this summer. They have one day camps, traditional games, pottery, clay modelling and junk art classes. Their charges are nominal, and they also provide transportation from your home to Dakshinachitra.

Age group: 5 years onwards.
Duration: 1 month.
Highlights: Traditional craftsmen from villages are always present there to train the children.
Cost: Rs 750 for the full day camp and Rs 500 for the other classes.

Vanilla place

Vanilla place is an all-in-one centre catering to the needs of parents, parents to-be, babies, toddlers and children- offering a calm yet vibrant environment to play, learn, relax and shop. Vanilla beans-a play gym, is one-ofa-kind in the city and caters to children from the age group of six months to six-and-ahalf years who are given loads of toys to play with.

They have a wide array of classes lined up for the summer for toddlers and children. The place has many workshops for parents and children. There are art and craft workshops, handwriting classes, sports based a tivities and much more. Besides this, they also conduct events for children throughout the year. Their Annual Children's Bazaar is quite a hit, which teaches children entreprenuerial skills.

Highlights: Children as young as six months can be part of this place along with their parents.

Kala Manjari

This is an after-school activity centre where your child can choose from classes in art, Carnatic vocal, keyboard, guitar, chess, western dance, Bharatanatyam, Hindustani vocal, and many more. The art classes are expected to be quite exciting this year, since the centre has tied up with Malaysian based company, Global Art.

The summer camp will also play host to four new workshops in soft toy making, fruit carving, flower making and glass painting. Kids can take their pick from the wide array of classes offered here and hone their skills in the field of their choice.

Age group: 4 years onwards.
Duration: 1 month.
Highlights: The Global Art course which aims at enhancing the creativity and visualisation skills of children.

Hotel Savera

Swimming classes are perhaps the ideal way to stay in shape and beat the heat. Hotel Savera is a great favourite with parents because of the special attention paid to teaching children.

O2 Health studio also offers a junior fitness programme for the summer which involves fat loss, posture correction, strength, stamina and flexibility training, back strengthening, sports specific fitness training and nutrition counseling specifically designed by fitness experts for children.

Exercises will be taught to children under the supervision of qualified sports physiotherapists. Body Lyrics (an O2 health studio initiative) at Hotel Savera and all branches of the 02 health studio offer the junior fitness program while swimming classes are offered at Hotel Savera.

Duration: 1 month.
Highlights: The programme involves a complete evaluation of the child and helps them improve their fitness levels.
